From the security point of view we can describe three different states of data:
- Data in transit – data is being transmitted over a network or another communication channel.
- Data in use – data being actively processed by applications.
- Data at rest – unused data, stored or saved on storage devices.

Considering and implementing appropriate security measures for data in transit, data at rest, and data in use, organizations can ensure the protection of their data throughout its lifecycle, mitigating the risk of data breaches, unauthorized access, or data loss.
